Charlotte, N.C., May 27, 2015 /3BL Media/ – Sealed Air Corporation (NYSE: SEE), and its partner school, the Alfreton Grange Arts College, have been crowned the Fresher For Longer competition champions. Fresher For Longer, part of the UK’s national Love Food Hate Waste campaign, gave students in 10 secondary schools across England and Wales the chance to tackle food waste in their own school communities while learning the role packaging plays in preventing the problem. After a series of food waste workshops delivered by Global Action Plan, the 195 students designed and implemented their own food waste behavior change programs. The resulting creative and impactful campaigns saw student teams reaching out to 50,000 people including classmates, teachers, families and even to local businesses and local governments.

As part of the program, Sealed Air and other local sponsoring packaging companies partnered with select schools across the U.K. to help students raise awareness about the impact of food waste in the school and local community, and to create their own behavior change campaigns to help reduce food waste. The ten participating schools and their partner companies competed against each other for the title of Fresher for Longer champion.

Sealed Air and the other sponsors sent a total of 25 STEM Ambassadors to mentor and educate the more than 195 students involved in the competition. Over the course of the competition, the students participated in 27 challenges to show how packaging can help reduce food waste.

The campaigns were assessed by representatives of the packaging sector, Global Action Plan and Waste Resources Action Program(WRAP) who were impressed by the quality of submissions. Alfreton Grange Arts College, who was partnered with and mentored by Sealed Air employees, most impressed the judges and will attend a celebratory event where they will pitch their winning idea to a panel at the Museum of Brands, Packaging and Advertising in June in London. “We would like to thank all of the students involved for their hard work. It has been great to see such a variety of ideas and great to see that so many students now have a good understanding of how packaging prevents food waste from farm to fork. We have thoroughly enjoyed seeing what the students have been up to”. - Jane Bickerstaffe, Director of INCPEN (Industry Council for research on Packaging and the Environment).
