UPS® has released its 13th annual Sustainability Report available at The 2014 UPS Corporate Sustainability Report page. This latest report highlights UPS’s continued investment in alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles and a commitment to log 20 million hours of volunteer time by the end of 2020.
UPS also continued its long history of giving back to the community with a 2014 pledge to commit 20 million volunteer hours by the end of 2020. UPS employees and retirees, friends and families logged 7.2 million volunteer hours since 2011. The company expects the 20 million hours of volunteer work to translate into nearly a half-billion dollars in economic impact to nonprofit organizations around the world.
The report also highlights two global trends facing the transportation and logistics industry – an increase in consumer e-commerce and growing urbanization – and how UPS is working with customers, government leaders and other stakeholders to develop innovative delivery methods and solutions to address the related sustainability challenges.
UPS's 2014 sustainability achievements include:
- For the third year in a row, UPS reduced per-package carbon emissions while delivering more goods for customers. The company has reduced carbon intensity 14.1% compared to a 2007 baseline, advancing toward a goal to reduce carbon intensity 20% by the end of 2020.
- Accelerated the journey to drive 1 billion miles in its fleet of alternative fuel and advanced technology vehicles by the end of 2017, logging 154 million miles to surpass the 500-million-mile mark.
- Coordinated 263 humanitarian relief shipments across 43 countries and provided funding and logistics support to areas affected by the Ebola epidemic, the Syrian refugee crisis and severe weather in the Philippines and U.S.
- Surpassed a 2016 charitable contribution goal of $103 million two years early, with $104.2 million in donations.
- Expanded UPS Access Point™ to 14,000 locations in Europe and North America, giving consumers more control over when and where they receive deliveries and reducing unnecessary miles and emissions.
- Continued a commitment to transparency and adhering to the Global Reporting Initiative’s G4 “Comprehensive” framework, the most rigorous and transparent reporting option.
