Wilsonart Partners with TXU Energy for Cleaner Air for Texans

Local company decreases emissions, adopts changes for a better environment

Local company decreases emissions, adopts changes for a better environment TEMPLE, Texas (March 12, 2013) – Texas-based Wilsonart, an innovator in designing beautiful, hard-working surfaces for interiors over more than 50 years, has taken additional steps to improve its energy efficiency and reduce its carbon footprint. The company recently purchased 35 percent Renewable Energy Credits backed by 100 percent Texas wind-fueled electricity. Based on the company’s historic energy consumption, Wilsonart will cut more than 22 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions each year with this commitment. “Like all businesses, Wilsonart has a responsibility to help protect the environment in which we live and work, and invest in our employees and customers,” said Dan Case, manager of Engineering and Real Estate for North America at Wilsonart. “We are always looking for ways to further improve our products, our use of resources and our environmental impact, and we appreciate the ideas and service TXU Energy has provided.” Wilsonart worked with its retail electricity provider, TXU Energy, to improve efficiency at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and to help its employees adopt energy efficiency habits at work and at home. In addition to the energy credit purchase, Wilsonart also has taken steps to reduce its overall electricity consumption. Energy-saving steps include: · Installing high bay fluorescent lighting in place of metal halide fixtures and replacing T12 lighting with T8 lighting, cutting consumption by almost 5 million kWh per year; and · Implementing new lighting controls in key areas, reducing consumption by more than 1 million kWh. Wilsonart accomplished the efficiency upgrades with modest investments and with help from the TXU Energy Brighten® GreenBack program. The program offers rebates for energy efficiency projects that TXU Energy medium and large business customers undertake. “The work Wilsonart has performed illustrates that relatively easy changes can make a big difference in consumption,” said Scott Harrison, director of engineering and innovation for TXU Energy. “That saves money, creates a better work environment and makes the company an even better corporate citizen.” Wilsonart recently hosted a two-day energy fair, where TXU Energy presented energy-savings ideas and solutions for the company’s employees, furthering its commitment to sustainability.
