BASF launches broad-spectrum UV filter Z-COTE® LSA FLORHAM PARK, NJ, September 5, 2012 -- BASF announced today the launch of Z-COTE® LSA, its latest inorganic, broad-spectrum ultraviolet (UV) light filter. Z-COTE LSA provides broad-spectrum protection from long wave UVA rays and medium wave UVB rays by physically scattering, reflecting and absorbing solar radiation. The filter is hypoallergenic, making it an ideal ingredient for use in daily skin moisturizers and beach wear products formulated for sensitive skin. Z-COTE LSA and its increased particle size complements BASF’s current Z-COTE product line, offering excellent transparency and outstanding dispersing properties to address previously unmet market needs. “With broad spectrum protection that fulfills the new U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards and its unique particle size, Z-COTE helps solve an unmet market need,” said Al Pearce, Senior Marketing Manager, BASF Personal Care. “Z-COTE LSA allows formulators to develop safe and gentle sun protection for daily wear and sunscreen applications.” Innovative market concepts for the personal care industry Z-COTE LSA is featured in six BASF product formulations based on extensive research that revealed top trends consumers will see in 2013. The formulations are available for customer trial and listed in the first edition of BASF Create magazine that was first featured at the New York Society of Cosmetic Chemists (NYSCC) Supplier’s Day in May 2012: • Sunscreen stick with SPF 30 • Natural lip balm with SPF 15 • Light weight mineral foundation • Day cream with naturally sourced UV protection SPF 15 • Pink Lotus lipstick with SPF 15 • Golden Hue body lotion About BASF Care Chemicals BASF Care Chemicals division offers a broad range of ingredients for hygiene, personal care, home care, industrial & institutional cleaning, and technical applications.
