On June 4, 2012, leaders in corporate responsibility convened in San Diego for the sixth annual Sustainable Brands conference. Companies like Steelcase, Ford, Interface, and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters discussed strategies and practices that achieve success on the triple bottom line: financial, social, and environmental.

In keeping with this goal, Sustainable Life Media implemented a Zero Waste program to address the environmental effects of conference attendance. Carbon emissions from the event were an important consideration. To address this, NativeEnergy was selected to be the official Carbon Offset Sponsor.

NativeEnergy has donated Help Build™ carbon offsets from projects in Iowa, Oklahoma, and Pennsylvania to counteract the carbon footprint of the venue energy use, all hotel accommodations, and attendee travel. In total, NativeEnergy is offsetting 591 tons of CO2. This is equivalent to:

  • Taking 116 passenger vehicles off the road for a year
  • Preventing 6 acres from being deforested
  • Converting more than 73 homes to 100% renewable power for a year

“Sustainable Brands is a forum for the critical conversations that we—as businesspeople and as citizens—need to have about the environment and the communities in which we and our suppliers work,” said Tom Rawls, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at NativeEnergy. “We can tweet to each other all day, but nothing has replaced the value of thoughtful face-to-face conversation. Travel inevitably has a carbon footprint. We’re proud to help counteract this with our Help Build™ carbon offsets.”

About NativeEnergy

Founded in Vermont in 2000, NativeEnergy is an expert provider of carbon offsets, renewable energy credits, and carbon accounting software. We help businesses and individuals identify and reduce their greenhouse gas pollution and attain their sustainability goals. Our clients are pioneers in corporate social responsibility, including eBay, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, Ben & Jerry’s, Interface, Stonyfield Farm, Esurance, and National Geographic.

Through our Help Build™ carbon offsets, businesses and individuals can help finance the construction of wind, biogas, solar, and other carbon reducing projects with strong social and environmental benefits. We have provided essential funding to more than 50 community-based initiatives—our customers have brought renewable energy to schools, methane digesters to family farms, and we even helped build the first large scale Native American-owned wind turbine in the U.S.

For corporate clients, we also offer a portfolio of carbon credits from exclusive and diverse projects around the world. All NativeEnergy carbon offsets are third-party validated and verified to leading standards, and our renewable energy credits are Green-e certified. In total, we have supported more than 2.5 million tons of greenhouse gas reductions, and we have over 4 million tons under contract.
