TEMPE, Ariz. – July 31, 2014 – Through generous funding provided by the Rob and Melani Walton Fund of the Walton Family Foundation, Arizona State University will award a limited number of $15,000 Walton Sustainability Executive Scholarships to mid-career professionals applying to the Executive Master’s for Sustainability Leadership program. The deadline for scholarship applications is September 19.

The program, offered by the Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives and administered by the School of Sustainability, provides professionals the knowledge and real-world experiences in leadership needed to progress their company or organization while connecting them with an elite network of sustainability experts and leaders.

“Many organizations are seeking employees knowledgeable in implementing sustainability practices and theories to increase their organization’s resiliency,” said Patricia Reiter, executive director of the Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives. “To remain competitive in the sustainability job market, professionals need the leadership skills taught in our Executive Master’s program.”

The 13-month program starting on January 11, 2015 is a mix of in-person and online education. The first cohort, with individuals coming from Nigeria, the Netherlands, Canada and across the U.S., recently traveled to the Netherlands to gain insights from local officials and executives working on sustainability issues.

To be considered for the 2015 cohort and scholarship, applicants must submit a full application, including an answer to the scholarship essay question, by September 19. Scholarship recipients will be selected based on their scholarship essays after their admission to the program.

The Rob and Melani Walton Sustainability Solutions Initiatives are the result of an investment in Arizona State University’s Julie Ann Wrigley Global Institute of Sustainability by the Walton Family Foundation.
