Natural gas and energy retailer Just Energy Group has launched a new instant green power quote system that makes it easier for commercial customers to acquire LEED certification.
The tool is being offered through JustGreen, the company’s clean energy initiative. It provides a convenient, interactive tool that offers immediate benefit to the architectural, engineering and construction community in need of real-time quotes for the purchase of Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) for LEED points as well as for carbon offsets in anticipation of LEEDv4.
LEED is an internationally accepted benchmark of excellence for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings and provides building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their buildings’ performance. JustGreen says it hopes to make the process as seamless as possible.
Those seeking LEED certification can gain up to seven points through the purchase of JustGreen’s certified renewable energy credits, the organization says.
After entering the project type, building location and square footage into the calculator, users receive information on the amount of RECs and VERs/Carbon Offsets, the associated cost and how many LEED points can be gained for projects anywhere in North America. JustGreen customers receive documentation for LEED submission as well as marketing materials to promote their green power purchase.
JustGreen is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council and Canada Green Building Council, and is one of North America's largest green energy providers with $70M invested in green energy projects to date. Just Energy says it is part of the growing network of renewable energy providers that offer REC products certified by Green-e Energy, a leading certification and verification program for renewable energy in North America.
In related news, eBay earlier this month announced the opening of its new 241,095 square foot facility in Draper, Utah that has achieved LEED Gold standards. The facility is expected to accommodate some 1,800 eBay employees and features several integrated sustainable design features, such as large windows that allow for abundant natural light and clear views of the nearby Wasatch Mountains and Jordan River. The building’s infrastructure makes efficient use of water, reducing the burden on the municipal water supply by 35 percent.
