On World Water Day, Dow Encourages Conversations Around Sustainable Water Strategies

World Water Day, on March 22, is a day to focus attention on the importance of water, and to inspire people to manage water more effectively in the future. World Water Day, on March 22, is a day to focus attention on the importance of water, and to inspire people to manage water more effectively in the future. As part of this effort, Dow is seeking to build on the conversation by sharing the story of its journey toward more sustainable water management.

To help, Dow has launched the following new resources:

  • Dow’s Blueprint on Sustainable Watershed webpage highlights Dow’s newly launched Water Blueprint, part of Dow’s 2025 “Leading the Blueprint” Sustainability Goal. Through this blueprint, Dow is committed to helping build collaborative models for better stewardship of our water and watersheds.
  • Dow’s World Water Day webpage has been updated to highlight examples of how Dow is valuing ecosystems – such as wetlands – and their services, and exploring how to use nature to overcome environmental challenges.

“The Blueprint for Sustainable Watershed Management is about sharing the story of Dow’s journey toward more sustainable water management, which centers on the power of collaboration,” said Matt Davis, president, Dow North America, and senior vice president, Global Public Affairs & Government Affairs. “In those collaborations, stakeholders can play multiple roles, from framing the initial collaboration, to being a key supporter for project execution – from a technical, financial, or policy standpoint.”

Dow has been involved in advancing water stewardship for decades and strives to work on specific solutions at key sites to make more and better water available to local communities. These initiatives include an innovative public-private collaboration at Dow’s Terneuzen site, in which the Company reuses municipal wastewater in its operations. Read the case study.

In addition, Dow is involved with a number of collaborations and conversations around water conservation and management. These include The Nature Conservancy, CEO Water Mandate, the World Council for Sustainable Business Development and the Global Water Challenge.

“Our interconnected world requires a collaborative approach to sustainability, combining meaningful actions at local and global levels,” said Neil Hawkins, chief sustainability officer and corporate vice president for Environment, Health & Safety. “We encourage Dow people to explore how our Company and all of us as individuals can be part of the solution.”

The first World Water Day was officially declared in 1993 by the United Nations General Assembly and is celebrated around the world, shining a spotlight on a different each year. This year the theme for World Water Day is “Nature for Water,” which explores nature-based solutions to the world’s water challenges.
