Press Release
thinkstep wins Environmental Leader 2016 Top Product of the Year Awards for BOMcheck Database and EC4P Compliance Management System - BOMcheck is the only three-time award winner

Stuttgart/Boston/London, June 29, 2016 – thinkstep, the industry-leading sustainability software, data and services company, is proud to announce that the www.BOMcheck.net substance declarations web database and the www.EC4P.com recycling compliance management system have both won Environmental Leader 2016 Top Product of the Year Awards. BOMcheck Director, Aidan Turnbull, and EC4P Product Manager, James Pearson, accepted the awards at the Environmental Leader Conference in Denver, Colorado on Wed., June 22.

Established in 2012, the Environmental Leader Awards recognize excellence in products and services that provide companies with environmental benefits. BOMcheck is the only product to win the award three times and this is the second year in a row that EC4P has won.

The EC4P management system is a confidential web application which guarantees manufacturer compliance with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations, batteries regulations and packaging regulations in all 28 EU Member States as well as European Free Trade Association countries. Understanding and managing WEEE, batteries and packaging legal exposure across Europe is challenging for manufacturers. Training staff to understand requirements, stay up-to-date on changing regulations, carry out registration and product reporting, and pay the correct fees on time for each country, is expensive and time consuming. The EC4P system manages all of these compliance requirements through one central repository.

According to one of the judges, “The solution simplifies the regulatory complexity. Any product that can demonstrably prove that time can be saved and efficiencies gained for data collation and reporting — especially across multiple sectors and geographies — has my vote.”

BOMcheck is a centralized web database which helps manufacturers manage supply chains’ compliance to RoHS, REACH and other substance regulations around the world. In order to sell products globally, manufacturers need to ensure their suppliers understand, comply with, and stay up-to-date with an increasing number of substance restrictions. BOMcheck saves time and costs by providing tools, training, and chemicals guidance to help suppliers create and share standardized, high quality declarations. Suppliers can choose to share regulatory compliance declarations, full materials declarations and conflict minerals declarations and can restrict access to certain manufacturers. Manufacturers can download suppliers’ compliance declarations in standard formats.

The judges praised the solution saying, “BOMcheck is a great tool that should be utilized by every manufacturer. The ease of use will only enhance the ability of any business to track and report on any potential hazardous material that may be contained in their product. Armed with this information, companies can work toward reducing their usage of such materials.”
