Sustainable Packaging:
The Estèe Lauder Companies Empowers Employees with the Sustainable Packaging Coalition’s Digital Training

For many consumers, packaging is the very first thing they notice about our products. It’s how we introduce ourselves and set the tone for the entire consumer experience.

We at the Estée Lauder Companies believe in the importance of maintaining the highest aesthetics for the design and usability of our packaging so that every step of the consumer experience is luxurious. And we are proud that we maintain the high prestige aesthetics we are known for, while ensuring that we continuously meet our own responsible and sustainable values at the same time.

The Estée Lauder Companies is proud to be a founding member of the Sustainable Packaging Coalition (SPC). We value this long-term partnership and the opportunities to connect and collaborate with industry peers, track sustainable packaging trends and innovations, pilot projects and more to ensure that our sustainability standards remain high and our approach remains cutting-edge.

This fall, SPC launched an online e-learning platform, with training courses on the Essentials of Sustainable Packaging. To take full advantage of our membership and this opportunity, the Global Corporate Citizenship & Sustainability (GCCS) and Packaging functions partnered to sponsor corporate licenses for this platform for employees across Packaging Development, Product Development and Design.

As part of our ongoing mission to unleash our employees’ innovation and creativity and ensure that they always feel empowered to lead from every chair, GCCS & Packaging recently hosted an in-person training for over 100 employees which was facilitated by SPC on topics including integrating sustainability into a brand, optimizing design, designing for recovery, sourcing sustainably and understanding how packaging fits into the larger picture of sustainability. Nancy Mahon, Senior Vice President, Global Corporate Citizenship & Sustainability, stated in her opening remarks, “What we’re trying to do is not only up-skill, but also connect the dots between the brands, the sustainability function and packaging.” Following the training, employees remarked that they were eager to check out the additional e-learning modules available to them through SPC.

Giving employees the opportunity to learn and develop in a collaborative environment such as the one we’ve established with SPC is essential as we move towards and help build a more beautiful and sustainable future. We look forward to further expanding educational experiences for our employees and seeing how much they grow their professional skills using tools like LinkedIn Learning and SPC’s e-learning platform.
