Nuancing forestry impacts on biodiversity in LCA
Nuancing forestry impacts on biodiversity in LCA

3 years ago - Corporations are increasingly attuned to the influence of human activity on land use, land use changes and forestry (see LUC Guidance). With systemic thinking, businesses are aware of their supply chain’s impact and they seek additional guidance to fully integrate biodiversity gains and losses in their environmental decision-making. Forestry in particular exerts pressures on biodiversity, which are not fully accounted for in current life cycle inventories and impact assessment methodologies. As a result, life cycle assessments (LCA) strive to appropriately differentiate sustainably managed forests from the rest in terms of their impact on biodiversity.

Science-based targets: setting into action
Science-based targets: setting into action

3 years ago -   On the sustainability circuit, much of the discussion these days is around science-based goal setting. How Brands Are Embedding Eco-Design at Scale

4 years ago - Eco-design is now synonymous with new product development (NPD). Quantis is helping to lead this seismic shift, working with industry leaders to integrate sustainability at every level, driving systemic change with action informed by solid, science-based metrics.

Regionalizing agricultural lifecycle assessments boosts decision-making
Regionalizing agricultural lifecycle assessments boosts decision-making

4 years ago - Regionalized lifecycle inventory (LCI) modeling generates and links process datasets to the location in which they occur[i]. Given agricultural lifecycle assessments (LCA) are particularly spatially-sensitive, Quantis’s Rainer Zah was involved in developing a framework streamlining the generation of high-resolution crop production datasets in any region of the world. Our experience with applying the framework to the footprint assessment of food, feed, fiber or biofuel and material production shows that it allows decision-makers to consider micro-spatial variations otherwise overlooked in LCA.

If we compare the risks related to water and energy, an investment to improve energy efficiency would allow for a quick and significant return on investment while reducing environmental impacts; however, investing in better water management, generally leads to higher OPEX without a direct financial benefit.
