Ellen Weinreb’s passion for sustainability and CSR dates back well before it was a buzz word. She launched a niche CSR consulting firm upon graduating from Yale with an MBA in 1998; clients include Levi Strauss, Nike, Clorox and Hewlett Packard.
In 2005, she founded Sustainability Recruiting, an executive search firm placing sustainability professionals in corporate leadership roles. In 2011, she launched Weinreb Group, uniting her consulting and executive search expertise. She brings 15 years of sustainability and corporate social responsibility experience to her clients.
Ellen got her sustainability and CSR start in the early days of Corporate Social Responsibility – 1996 to be exact. Ellen had recently started business school at Yale. She wanted to find work that bridged her MBA with her previous work building enterprises with coffee farmers and artisans in Cameroon.
Her first week of school she opened the New York Times to read a cover story of Kathie Lee Gifford turning lemons into lemonade. Kathie Lee was the co-anchor of the Regis Phibin’s show with her own line of Wal-Mart clothing. Upon finding her line of clothing was produced in sweatshop conditions, Kathie Lee got on the first flight to Honduras and personally handed out hundred dollar bills. A stunt like that could not be pulled off today-complexities loom large. It is these complexities that Ellen understands and can help her clients navigate as an executive search partner.
Ellen is a regular contributor to Forbes, Huffington Post, and GreenBiz with her own column entitled “Talent Show.” She is a frequent speaker at such conferences as GreenBiz, Net Impact, Fortune Brainstorm Green, UN Global Compact, and Sustainable Brands.
Ellen is the recipient of the Count Me In 2010 Micro to Millions Award for women entrepreneurs and co-coordinator of the Bay Area Recruiters Association.
