Mellissa Nguyen

Senior Manager, Sustainability
Ambu

Mellissa Nguyen is a sustainability leader with more than 15 years of experience advancing environmental stewardship and responsible sourcing in healthcare. She serves as the US sustainability lead for Ambu, a global medical device manufacturer, where she drives circular economy initiatives and integrates sustainability across the healthcare supply chain. Her work includes leading reverse logistics recycling programs across the US , helping healthcare facilities divert complex single‑use medical devices from disposal. Through these efforts, Mellissa challenges the traditional “take‑make‑dispose” model, demonstrating how circular systems can reduce waste, mitigate risk, and strengthen operational resilience without compromising clinical performance or cost. Previously, Mellissa spent over a decade at a national group purchasing organization, where she helped build the largest environmentally preferred sourcing portfolio in US healthcare. She partnered with suppliers across diverse categories—ranging from medical products to food systems and the built environment to embed sustainability into procurement strategies and contracting decisions. Mellissa is a frequent speaker at leading industry forums, including CleanMed Europe, AHRMM, BizNGO, Health Connect Partners, the World Health Organization, and the United Nations Development Programme. She holds a B.S.B.A. in Information Systems, an M.A. in International Trade Policy, and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Environmental Sustainability. Her global perspective was shaped by her service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Vanuatu. A bridge‑builder by nature, Mellissa focuses on turning sustainability challenges into actionable opportunities that support operational efficiency, patient safety, and measurable environmental impact.
