Peg Willingham is the Executive Director of Fairtrade America, the US arm of Fairtrade International, which works with businesses, farmers and workers to certify products as ethically and sustainably sourced. Peg Willingham is the Executive Director of Fairtrade America, the US arm of Fairtrade International, which works with businesses, farmers and workers to certify products as ethically and sustainably sourced. From 2015 to 2020, Peg served as Head of Advocacy and Policy at the International Food Policy Research Institute, which provides policy solutions to sustainably reduce poverty and end hunger and malnutrition. Prior to joining IFPRI, she was the Executive Director of Shot@Life at the United Nations Foundation, leading a campaign to raise awareness and resources to immunize children in developing countries. At the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative and the Aeras Global TB Vaccine Foundation, she advocated for increased funding and supportive policies for the development of new vaccines.
Peg started her career as a US Foreign Service officer, with tours in Costa Rica, Saudi Arabia and Colombia, receiving five Superior Honor Awards. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the US Foundation for the University of the Valley of Guatemala and PYXERA Global. Peg received her MA from the University of Michigan and her BA from the University of Virginia. She is also a graduate of the University of Virginia’s Sorensen Institute of Political Leadership.
