3M Canada Hosts Summit on Innovating for Sustainability

As the global population continues to grow and put unprecedented strains on resources, infrastructure and the environment, it has never been more important for businesses to collaborate on finding solutions to the sustainability challenges facing the world. On October 11, 3M Canada is bringing together some of the leading thinkers on sustainability issues from business, government and academia for a day-long Sustainability Summit that will examine the business imperative for acting sustainably.

"For 3M, sustainability is a core value that influences everything we do, but we know that we don't have all the answers to protecting our planet," said Mojdeh Poul, President of 3M Canada. "That's why we work closely with our suppliers, our customers and our communities –through events like the Sustainability Summit – to share ideas about how to work together to address the sustainability challenges we all face."

Dr. Richard Matthew, the Associate Dean for International Programs and Professor of Urban Planning and Public Policy at the University of California at Irvine, will deliver one of the keynote addresses at the Summit on social and environmental megatrends and managing business resiliency. The second keynote address, on the role of corporations in building a sustainable economy, will be given by Dr. Stewart Elgie, a Professor of Law and Economics at the University of Ottawa and the Director of the University's Interdisciplinary Environment Institute and the founder of Sustainable Prosperity, Canada's foremost green economy think tank and policy research network.

Representatives of 3M Canada and Bombardier will provide industry insights and strategies throughout the Summit, which will conclude with a panel discussion at which officials from Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Natural Resources Canada will review the federal government's efforts to accelerate Canada's transition to a greener and more innovative economy.

"The world is being impacted by forces that are increasingly fierce, complex and often at odds, so we need to find a responsible way to manage these sustainability megatrends," said Jason Grouette, Director, Electronics & Energy Business Group and Executive Sponsor, Sustainability at 3M Canada. "The depth and breadth of 3M's technology and expertise across 12 industries, and our strong partnerships with customers worldwide, give us the opportunity to influence change for the better, as we hope to do with the Sustainability Summit."
