Ecodesk, a global supply chain sustainability database and communication platform, today announced a partnership with The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) to launch a leading edge, cloud-based supplier assessment scorecard to drive increased engagement and analysis of supplier sustainability performance.

The scorecard is the result of extensive collaboration, combining P&G’s in-depth, tried and tested methodology for measuring supplier sustainability performance with Ecodesk’s expertise in cloud-based sustainable supply chain technology platforms, supplier engagement and data collection and aggregation. It is easy to use for suppliers and easy for customers to manage, speeding up the whole supplier assessment process.

P&G has been using a supplier score card since 2010, but in a spreadsheet-based format. The new design will be more efficient and easier for suppliers to use and P&G to review as it digitises and integrates the data within a cloud-based platform.

“Our aim at P&G is to improve the environmental sustainability of our products across all aspects of their life cycle – from supply chain to manufacturing, packaging and delivery through consumer use. We designed the score card to encourage year-on-year improvement in supplier sustainability performance, regardless of a supplier’s total size or the current stage of its sustainability program,” said Stewart Atkinson, Procter & Gamble’s Chief Purchasing Officer.

“In collaboration with Ecodesk, we aim to make the process simpler and easier for suppliers to participate.”

What is the supplier assessment scorecard?
The Supply Chain Environmental Sustainability Scorecard tracks supplier engagement and improvements on key environmental sustainability measures in the supply chain. Its primary use is to measure and reward improvement over time in each key environmental sustainability criteria, regardless of starting point or size of business. Every scorecard features quantitative criteria that automatically scores suppliers on their sustainability data reporting completeness and their comparative performance. This indicates whether or not a supplier is fully engaged with a sustainability programme and whether or not a supplier is driving ongoing improvements in terms of carbon, energy, water and waste performance.

Mark Adorian, Chairman Ecodesk commented:
“We are proud to be working with one of the world’s leading consumer good companies on this project, which enables businesses to gain an accurate and on-going picture of supplier sustainability performance. P&G has been at the forefront of supply chain engagement for a number of years and its ideas and objectives for supply chain sustainability align very much with our own in that we both want to increase supplier engagement and accountability while also driving change. This is only achievable through innovation that simplifies the engagement process while strengthening the data collection and analysis.
