- Ford Motor Company today announced plans to transform its Dearborn facilities into a modern, sustainable, high-tech campus to foster innovation and help drive the company’s transition beyond mere automaker to a mobility company.
The 10-year transformation of the company’s more than 60-year-old Dearborn facilities will co-locate 30,000 employees from 70 buildings today into primarily two locations — a product campus and a world headquarters campus. More than 7.5 million square feet of workspace will be rebuilt and upgraded into even more technology-enabled and connected facilities.

Five outfits featured in the show were made entirely from the up-cycling of Ford’s sustainable seat fabrics, which are made from recycled plastic bottles. The garments were designed at The Redress Forum 2016: Ford Design Challenge, in which 10 emerging designers were tasked with creating high-fashion outfits using Ford’s sustainable seat fabrics. When designing the collection, the designers – from Hong Kong, mainland China, Thailand, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom – took inspiration from the landmarks of the city of Hong Kong.

- DEARBORN, Mich., Nov. 12, 2015 – Carol Kordich, Ford lead designer, global sustainability
materials strategy development, accepted the Society of Plastics Engineers’ Automotive
Innovation Award in the Environmental category on behalf of Ford Motor Company on
Wednesday. The SPE® award recognized Kordich’s work to replace traditional seating fabric
with one that is made of 100 percent recycled material.
Under Kordich’s direction, Ford began working with Unifi in 2012 to bring environmentally
responsible, high-performance REPREVE fabric to Ford vehicles. Ford uses REPREVE in five
of its vehicles – the new F-150, Explorer, Edge, Focus Electric and Fusion – making it a globally
used material.

For years, Ford researchers have considered ways to make auto manufacturing more sustainable. A key challenge is glue used to adhere foams to plastics and metals can make disassembling parts for recycling nearly impossible.
Enter the gecko.
The lizard’s toe pads allow it to stick to most surfaces without liquids or surface tension. The reptile can then easily release itself, leaving no residue. Consider, too, that a typical mature gecko weighing 2.5 ounces is capable of supporting 293 pounds.

- Ford Motor Company is highlighting its commitment to plug-in electric vehicles by expanding efforts to provide more workplace charging stations to employees across the United States and Canada.
The automaker began installing charging stations in September 2014, and currently has 145 units available for employee use at 43 Ford offices and manufacturing facilities in 6 states and Canada. There are plans to install 20 more in the near future, with ongoing discussions to increase the number in the long term.
