As well as joining the CE100, BASF also announced its membership of the New Plastics Economy Initiative, led by the Foundation and launched in May 2016. The initiative brings together key players from across the value chain to build a global plastics system that works. Together with core partners Amcor, The Coca-Cola Company, Danone, MARS, Novamont, Unilever and Veolia, BASF will work towards increasing the reuse and recycling of plastics packaging globally and optimising entire product life-cycles to promote a circular economy.

Dr. Dirk Voeste, Vise President Sustainability Strategy at BASF SE said, “Circular economy goes beyond a company’s own operations. Successful circular economy concepts need to enclose the whole value chain to fully embrace customers and suppliers. To use and re-use systems right from the beginning, “design for purpose” is key. Therefore, BASF collaborates with customers and value chain partners to further develop products and solutions to make more use of natural and technical loops.”
