At Timberland we love trees and we have a vision of a world where children are more connected to nature. And what a better time to plant a tree than when school starts again, after a nice summer break?
From August 15th to September 15th Timberland, in partnership with Pur Projet, will plant a tree for every pair of kids shoes sold, and the geo-localization tool will allow every child to locate on a map where his tree will be planted.
All trees will be planted in Transylvania, where landscapes have been marked by extensive agriculture and original forests have long been cleared.
With this initiative, Timberland and Pur Pojet are supporting the Mihai Eminescu Trust (MET), an award-winning charity dedicated to the conservation and regeneration of villages and communities in Transylvania, which in 2009 has launched the "A forest for every school" project. Their goal is to tackle climate change issues and improve the natural landscape by preserving and expanding forest as well as raising awareness of the importance of environmental preservation among the population by conducting educational activities and involving the local community in the tree planting process. Local children play an active role in reaching this goal and are involved in the plantation and care of the forests.

About PUR Projet
PUR Projet is a company specialized in the development of insetting programs that help companies integrate their social and environmental commitments within their supply chains and spheres of influence. In particular, PUR Projet designs and operates community ecosystems management projects including reforestation, agroforestry (managing agricultural output combining crop and timber/fruit trees planting) and forest conservation activities. When relevant, PUR Projet also assists communities in certifying these projects under carbon and sustainability standards (such as VCS: Verified Carbon Standard, CCBA: Climate Community Biodiversity Alliance, GS: Gold Standard) as well as corporate standards. The certification audits are done by third party organizations such as Rainforest Alliance, SCS, SGS or Ecocert.
PUR Projet manages a portfolio of 38 projects around the world with diversified farmer groups. A total of 7 million trees have already been planted in combination with farmers' crops in all the projects. Several projects have been certified with the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) or the Gold Standard (GS). More information on http://www.purprojet.com.
