Lucid, Urjanet Partnering to Increase Accessibility of Building Energy Data

Oakland, CA-based software company Lucid and utility data management provider Urjanet today announced they are teaming up to solve one of the largest barriers to deploying energy efficiency: the cost of acquiring and managing building performance data.Through the new partnership, Urjanet’s utilityCONNECT service will automate the collection and delivery of electricity, water and natural gas billing, history and rate-plan data for Lucid’s BuildingOS energy-management platform.

Oakland, CA-based software company Lucid and utility data management provider Urjanet today announced they are teaming up to solve one of the largest barriers to deploying energy efficiency: the cost of acquiring and managing building performance data.

Through the new partnership, Urjanet’s utilityCONNECT service will automate the collection and delivery of electricity, water and natural gas billing, history and rate-plan data for Lucid’s BuildingOS energy-management platform.

“Data access is the first step toward enabling energy efficiency,” said Lucid CEO Vladi Shunturov. “We created BuildingOS to make data access easy by eliminating the silos that exist between building technology vendors. Our partnership with Urjanet extends the reach of BuildingOS even further by giving customers visibility into their utility bills and eliminating the need for manual bill data entry.”

The combination of BuildingOS, which integrates with over 150 different types of building systems and electric sub-meters, and utilityCONNECT, which normalizes and federates data streams from over 800 utilities, provides universal energy data access and a one-stop source for obtaining actionable information into energy use for schools, large corporations, government agencies, energy management software vendors, and energy services firms.

“Data acquisition has always been a major challenge in the energy management industry,” said Urjanet CEO Sanjoy Malik. “With Urjanet providing vital utility billing data to the BuildingOS platform, along with Lucid’s integrations with building systems and sub-meters, BuildingOS users can get a complete view of energy information across all their buildings.”

“I’m excited about the strong partnership between Lucid and Urjanet,” Malik said. “Both companies have taken a vendor-agnostic approach to data-driven energy efficiency that helps our customers reduce costs and make better energy management decisions.”

The BuildingOS-UtilityCONNECT solution is just one set of tools now helping to eliminate the cost of acquiring and managing performance data as a barrier to increasing building efficiency: In August, AT&T and the Environmental Defense Fund released the Building Water Efficiency toolkit, which they claim can help U.S. commercial buildings collectively save up to 28 billion gallons of water annually; and new tools from KieranTimberlake and Sustainable Minds can help designers and architects plan sustainability into buildings from the ground up.
