Nestlé has been recognized as a global leader for its response to climate change, again earning a place in the annual CDP Climate A List.
Nestlé is among just 5 percent of participating companies to be featured on the 2017 Climate A List, compiled by global non-for-profit charity CDP. This is in recognition of action taken in the last year to cut emissions, mitigate climate risks and develop the low-carbon economy.

L’Oréal USA announced today that it has received a 2017 Green Power Partner of the Year Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The company was one of only two organizations nationwide to be chosen as a 2017 Green Power Partner of the Year, which recognizes Green Power Partners who distinguish themselves through their leadership, overall strategy and impact on the green power market. The award was presented at EPA’s annual Green Power Leadership Awards Luncheon to Jay Harf, Vice President, Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability for L’Oréal Operations Americas.

Following a recent commitment to source 100 percent sustainable cotton by 2020, Target has introduced a new climate policy and Science-Based Target Initiative-aligned goals aimed at reducing its carbon footprint.

It’s Waste Reduction Week in Canada, and to celebrate, I spoke to some superstar companies reducing waste through product design that are featured in the National Zero Waste Council’s Design Portfolio. Previously, I interviewed the inventor of the world’s first reusable beeswax food wraps. With millions of disposable coffee cups finding their way into landfill each year, businesses and local authorities across the globe have been searching for ways to increase recycling and recovery of the single-use item. Building on the success of previous in-store cup and pilot recycling schemes, major brands in the UK have launched two permanent solutions for scaling coffee cup recycling.

Traceability is an ongoing concern for the textile industry. Technologies such as barcodes, QR codes and RFID tags have been put in place to enhance supply chain transparency, but they often fail to provide complete traceability. Researchers at the University of Borås in Sweden have developed a novel coded yarn-based tracking system that promises to overcome existing limitations and deliver improved traceability.

The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) and Constellation, a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation (NYSE: EXC), today announced the completion of a 50-megawatt biomass-fueled combined heat and power plant located at one of P&G’s largest U.S. facilities. Constellation owns and operates the plant, which supplies steam to P&G’s Albany, GA paper manufacturing facility and generates electricity for the local utility, Georgia Power.
BEHAVIOR CHANGE -
Flowing through south-central British Columbia is a crisp river, idyllically flanked by black cliffs.
But in the 1970s, the clear water of the Thompson River took on a brown hue and bubbled with foam. Rocks were covered with a thick slime. Area leaders grew concerned that a harmful algal bloom might be to blame, which had potential to harm ecology, area residents and the river’s 24 species of fish, including salmon and rainbow trout.
An investigation began into the effects of industrial and municipal discharge – particularly from the Domtar’s Kamloops pulp mill and the City of Kamloops.
