The first-ever international Equality Institute promoting LGBT workplace equality in London was held July 6 and led by The Walt Disney Company, Out & Equal Workplace Advocates and Sodexo.
More than 200 representatives from 100 companies in the U.K. and other countries attended the one-day workshop to learn and share best practices for LGBT workplace equality. Disney hosted the first Equality Institute in 2015 in Orlando, Florida. The London institute marks the first international event.

Noting rapid technological advancements in electrified and self-driving vehicles, cybersecurity and connectivity, Barra said automakers’ futures depend on a deep and diverse pool of talented engineers. Nowhere is this more true than in computer science, where women and minorities make up only a fraction of working professionals. Global consumer goods firm Unilever has suspended sourcing from an Indonesian-based palm oil supplier which was found to be in breach of policy on deforestation and peatland clearance.
Ongoing deforestation and peatland clearance by Sawit Sumbermas Sarana (SSMS) and its subsidiaries was demonstrated through satellite images in a recent investigation by Chain Reaction Research.
The study found that Unilever’s ongoing trading with SSMS might damage its sustainability reputation. As such, Unilever has joined the ranks of Wilmar International, Apical and Golden Agri-Resources (GAR) in suspending trading with SSMS.

GE Water & Process Technologies has honored Clear Path Recycling with its prestigious Ecomagination Leadership and Return on Environment (ROE) awards to recognize the plastic bottle recycling operation for its noteworthy reductions in chemical usage and cost. Clear Path – a joint venture between Shaw Industries, a leading floorcovering provider, and DAK Americas, a leading producer of polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) resin – recycles approximately 3 billion plastic bottles annually. Converting post-consumer PET packaging into polyester fiber for Shaw’s carpet products saves approximately 1.5 trillion British thermal units of energy annually.

The US city of Las Vegas has announced a partnership with networking giant Cisco aimed at speeding its progress towards becoming a smart connected city.
Cisco’s Smart+Connected digital platform will bring real-time Internet of Things (IoT) device and sensor data to city leaders to quickly and efficiently manage crowd, environmental and traffic control data and decision support.
The city said using technology to create a connected community -- while improving resident and visitor safety, increased sustainability and insight into traffic patterns and transportation infrastructure -- is the next step in becoming a smart city.
It has already invested $500m in smart infrastructure, having charted a course to become a smart city by 2025.

BillerudKorsnäs and Uppsala university have initiated a multi-annual collaboration to develop paper-based electrode materials. Based on achievements at Uppsala university in combination with BillerudKorsnäs competence in industrial production and packaging development, the future's sustainable fiber-based packaging will be explored.
The co-operation, which lasts three years, has been agreed between BillerudKorsnäs and Uppsala university Holding and aims to further develop research knowledge from Uppsala university to create energy storage in fiber structures by coating cellulosic fibers with electrically conductive polymers.
