New Cartoon Will Use Laughter, Adventure to Help Kids Save ‘Planet Blue’

A futuristic space station, rainforests and oceans will be explored by a cast of diverse kids and their animal friends in a new 3D-animated television show, Planet Blue. The show’s creators hope to inspire environmental awareness among children and capture their imaginations “with genuinely endearing characters, engaging scenarios, and writing that's funny enough to make them forget that they're learning.”

The completed synopses for a 12-episode season reveal that the show plans to cover deforestation, indigenous communities, the importance of frogs, how the rainforest helps regulate climate conditions and leads to medical innovations, over-fishing, coral reefs, plankton population decline, chemical runoffs, ocean currents, and other topics. Arrow Sky Media and its production partner, multi-award-winning animation studio Magnetic Dreams, plan to do so without miring in the doom and gloom of the world’s environmental problems.

According to the show’s Kickstarter campaign, “Every episode uses fun, humor, compelling drama, and heart-pounding adventure to bring serious environmental issues to light in a delicate manner the Planet Blue series is not about placing blame; it is about making proactive choices now and in the Future. Planet Blue is, ultimately, a story of respect, a value that we will not compromise as we speak to the blameless children that inhabit our beloved Earth.

“The show’s focus will be on solving environmental problems by making positive changes while creating productive and respectful dialogue with others. Children will become more aware and develop skills that empower them to make a difference. These, we believe, are the keys to Planet Blue’s educational values. Through compassion, we seek to aid our children in leading the way into tomorrow.”

The Planet Blue production team holds 31 Emmys between them, and Magnetic Dreams’ animation looks gorgeous:
