Just like in previous years, our hotel teams came together on 24 March at 8:30pm to participate in the annual worldwide Earth Hour campaign.
An initiative of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Earth Hour gathers people from different cultures and religions around the world to highlight the same worthy cause: taking a stand against climate change.
The majority of the Radisson Hotel Group’s hotels participated by turning off their non-essential lights for an hour - contributing to the global efforts to raise awareness of the impact energy savings can have on the world around us.
According to last year’s reports from environmental groups WWF and Global Footprint Network, humanity used up its allowance of resources by the beginning of August. This means that we emitted more carbon, cut more trees, consumed more water than the Earth was able to offer us in a year.
This year, WWF launched its “Connect2Earth” campaign to increase the awareness of climate change across social media, encouraging people to post a personal message about climate change and its effects on the Earth.
The Radisson Hotel Group always participates in this important initiative by engaging its employees and guests, young and old, through fantastic events organized at each hotel. It is all part of our commitment to be a Responsible Business and take better care of our planet.
Every hotel team has personalized the event in their own style - engaging their guests with a variety of activities carried out in the spirit of “Every Moment Matters!”
Some of the top stories and events from around the world:
Radisson Blu Resort & Spa, Malta Golden Sands took part in Earth Hour by offering energy-light food and drinks, like a dark cocktail and mocktail prepared without using a blender, and a buffet dinner consisting of dishes made of organic and locally produced vegetables. The hotel team successfully took care of both the planet and their guests.
Radisson Blu Hotel, Kiev in Ukraine celebrated the 11th anniversary of Earth Hour with another creative idea. The employees turned off the lights and invited the guests to play the Blind Man’s Buff, enlightening them about the perils of climate change.
Radisson Blu Hotel, Cologne in Germany, the passionate and environmentally conscious team celebrated Earth Hour by decorating the bar with specialized fluorescent lights to symbolize the energy-saving nature of the initiative. The guests enjoyed great moments with their treats and drinks.
The brand-new Radisson RED Hotel Cape Town in South Africa joined the Earth Hour with “Earth Hour Extravaganza 2018”. The OUIBar and KTCHN team hosted the initiative, with their uniquely crafted five-course ‘lights out’ menu.
The team at Country Inn & Suites by Radisson Goa Candolim in India organized an Earth Hour candlelit march. This involved distributing candles to the people in their local community, informing them about this initiative and encouraging them to switch off their lights while guests in the hotel were enjoying the candlelit memorable moments in the dark.
Radisson Blu Hotel Indore in India also joined the Earth Hour movement and teamed up with the local Airport Authority. Among other activities, the hotel team conducted a city cycle rally in the dark, travelling 6km to express their carbon-free commitment to take care of the environment.
Thanks to all the hotel teams that raised awareness of climate change during Earth Hour 2018 - you can all be proud of your efforts to look after our planet.
