The 100% recyclable biopolymer will be used in the packaging of the new line of loaves with germinated grains that follow the Clean Label movement
Braskem, the largest producer of biopolymers in the world, is now supplying the Green Plastic I'm greenTM to Nutrella, a brand of special loaves from the Bimbo Group - a world leader in bread making. The raw material is used in the Nutrella Viva loaves line, produced with germinated grain flours and following the Clean Label concept.
The Clean Label movement was driven by consumers seeking for foods made with natural, simple ingredients that are easy to recognize, understand and pronounce. The loaves of the Nutrella Viva line are produced with cereals and derivatives (including germinated grain flours), brown sugar, sunflower oil, apple vinegar and salt. In addition to the traditional flavor, there are two other variations, the multigrain - which includes rye, oats, barley and sunflower seed -, and the fruit one - with apricots and raisins. "We are aware of what consumers are searching for and we know that they value a more balanced diet. The loaves with sprouted cereal grains have a much higher nutritional potential and are more easily digested by our body, in addition to having more vitamins, minerals and amino acids," explains Bruna Tedesco, Marketing Director of the Bimbo Group.
The Green Plastic packs this more natural proposal of Nutrella Viva loaves and its adoption can be identified by consumers through the "I'm greenTM" label, visible on the product. The resin of renewable origin captures and fixes 3.09 tons of CO2 of the atmosphere for each ton produced, collaborating to the reduction in the emission of the greenhouse gases, but maintaining all the technical and mechanical properties of the conventional plastic, of a fossil origin, which allows their use and recycling without the need for structural or operational changes.
Circularity by Design: How to Influence Sustainable Consumer Behaviors
Join us Thursday, December 5, at 1pm ET for a free webinar on making circular behaviors the easy choice! Nudge & behavioral design expert Sille Krukow will explore the power of Consumer Behavior Design to drive circular decision-making and encourage behaviors including recycling and using take-back services. She will share key insights on consumer psychology, behavior design related to in-store and on-pack experiences, and how small changes in the environment can help make it easy for consumers to choose circularity.
"The proposal of the Nutrella Viva line is aligned with the purpose of Green Polyethylene, which meets an increasing consumer demand for innovative and sustainable solutions. For this reason, the adoption of the biopolymer has grown worldwide, being present in more than 150 brands in Europe, the United States, Asia, Africa and South America", reinforces Gustavo Sergi, director of Renewable Chemicals at Braskem. The bread of the Nutrella Viva line is already available in the stores of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, with the suggested price of R$ 9.49 per unit.
About the Green Plastic
The I'm greenTM Polyethylene is made from ethylene obtained from sugarcane. Its great differential is to contribute to the reduction of the emission of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, as it captures carbon dioxide during its production process. It also has the same characteristics of traditional polyethylene, that is, it does not require adaptations of machinery and is 100% recyclable. Braskem's Green Plastic plant has a production capacity of 200 thousand tons per year.
