4 years ago - Shaw Industries, the world’s largest carpet manufacturer and a leading floorcovering provider, has also become a leader in sustainability — in August, Shaw announced that 85 percent of its products are now Cradle to Cradle Certified™; and earlier this month, it achieved carbon neutrality in its commercial carpet manufacturing operations. We spoke with Troy Virgo, Director of Sustainability and Product Stewardship, to learn more about what drives the company’s efforts.
4 years ago - Shaw Industries Group, Inc. (Shaw) has completed the construction of a cogeneration Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plant at its Columbia, S.C. fiber production facility. The CHP, which began operating in May 2018, will reduce the plant’s annual greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 26,000 metric tonnes; that’s an impact equal to removing almost 5,500 passenger vehicles from the road each year. This is the latest in ongoing investments Shaw is making to minimize its environmental footprint. The company recently announced it has achieved carbon neutrality in its commercial carpet manufacturing operations. Companywide, Shaw has made significant investments to help reduce its energy and greenhouse gas impact.

5 years ago - Shaw Industries Group, Inc. (Shaw) has committed to building a cogeneration, Combined Heat & Power (CHP) plant, at its Columbia, S.C. fiber production facility. The electric power plant will provide electricity for the plant and utilize the waste (exhaust) heat from a turbine to produce steam. This production will be enough to meet the entire steam demand of the plant and will replace the majority of electricity supplied by a utility company. With construction well underway, the power plant is expected to be operational by Q1 2018.

5 years ago - GE Water & Process Technologies has honored Clear Path Recycling with its prestigious Ecomagination Leadership and Return on Environment (ROE) awards to recognize the plastic bottle recycling operation for its noteworthy reductions in chemical usage and cost. Clear Path – a joint venture between Shaw Industries, a leading floorcovering provider, and DAK Americas, a leading producer of polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) resin – recycles approximately 3 billion plastic bottles annually. Converting post-consumer PET packaging into polyester fiber for Shaw’s carpet products saves approximately 1.5 trillion British thermal units of energy annually.
