Hydrogen fuel cell cars could help solve the global warming crisis, but nobody wants to buy them. Yoshikazu Tanaka, chief engineer of the Toyota Mirai, Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell car, calls it a “chicken or the egg” problem: no one wants to purchase hydrogen cars because there are no hydrogen fuel stations, and nobody wants to build hydrogen fuel stations because there are no hydrogen cars.
But Toyota thinks it may have found a solution. For unlimited clean energy, it’s turning to one of the dirtiest places there is: the toilet.

Stratham, NH based outdoor lifestyle brand, Timberland, opens its first completed project in its five-year commitment to create and restore urban green spaces starting with New York City. In partnership with local nonprofit GrowNYC, Timberland and volunteers transformed a vacant lot in the Mott Haven Neighborhood of South Bronx, New York into a vibrant community garden. The restoration project came full circle with a service event that kicks off Timberland’s busy fall season of service, and also commemorates 9/11; something Timberland has done each year since September 11, 2001 when employees volunteered at a Bronx elementary school as tragedy struck.

Unilever announced today that it has signed an agreement to acquire Seventh Generation, Inc., the North American home and personal care products company.
Based in Vermont, Seventh Generation is a pioneer in corporate responsibility and sustainable product innovations, including plant-based detergents and household cleaners. The company’s turnover exceeded US $200m in 2015 and it has seen double digit compounded annual growth over the last 10 years.
Seventh Generation has a comprehensive product portfolio and a distribution network covering the ‘natural’ category in grocery, mass merchandise and e-commerce channels.

Chick-fil-A® announces today a new initiative that will more than double the company’s investment in Team Members’ college educations – providing $4.9 million in scholarships in 2017 alone, as well as access to tuition discounts and other benefits at more than 70 colleges and universities nationwide. While Chick-fil-A has offered scholarships for more than 40 years, the enhanced initiative, called Remarkable Futures, increases the amount of funding per recipient, allowing students to receive up to $25,000 in scholarships to be applied at any accredited institution of their choice, including online and on-campus formats, and can be combined with tuition discounts and other educational benefits at participating institutions.

The COSMOS standard (COSMetic Organic Standard) is one of the most important international standards for natural cosmetics. Until now, the standards of the national cosmetics associations in Europe also applied – above all BDIH (Germany) and Ecocert (France). When they are replaced by the uniform COSMOS standard starting in January 2017, BASF will be ready for the change: more than a 100 of the ingredients developed by BASF for cosmetic and body care products have already been registered with COSMOS. About half of the products also have a certificate of the international natural and organic cosmetics association NATRUE – including the ultra-light emollient Cetiol® Ultimate and the emulsifier Emulgade® Sucro Plus.

San Francisco will benefit from Ford’s latest expansion into alternative travel, as the company acquires Chariot and prepares to launch GoBike.
What do we know about Chariot? It launched in 2014, and its shuttles fill the gap between cab and bus services as a flexible, cost-effective option. Chariot uses Ford Transit shuttles, currently operating around 100 of them around 28 San Francisco Bay routes. Currently, these routes are crowd-sourced based on rider demand, but eventually will operate in dynamically, using algorithms to map the most efficient routes.

Why set yourself an impossible challenge? For a company that sells $1 billion worth of carpet tiles a year, total elimination of its environmental impact by 2020 is surely beyond the realms of possibility.
Industrial manufacturing processes, heavy use of raw materials and layers of supply chain that are not always possible to influence make it difficult to comprehend how Mission Zero can be achieved.

New York-listed Dow Chemical Company is working closely with six non-profit organizations in Cebu to help address pressing local challenges. Through the company's Leadership in Action (LIA), 40 DOW employees have formed teams to work on six important projects in Cebu that seek to advance access to water, increase production of high-quality food crops, and support product commercialization, among other challenges.
The Philippines is the second country in Asia selected by the company to develop solutions to address local critical needs. The program also enables new leadership development opportunities for Dow employees and a chance for them to learn more about realities of international business and identify new business opportunities.

Eastman team members are committed to investing in their communities, no matter where they are. At the Kohtla-Järve (KJ) site, team members have been involved in a number of endeavors that have made an impact in that small Estonian community.
Eastman began observing Earth Day events in 2013 in KJ. Volunteers recently used their time and talent to continue a tree planting project that was started last year.
In a commitment to environmental stewardship, 10 trees were planted last year in front of the administrative building, and another 10 trees were added this year.
