Award-winning British designer Christopher Raeburn showcased his new Spring/Summer 2016 SARAWAK collection on Tuesday at London Fashion Week. Raeburn worked closely with apparel branding, labeling, packaging and embellishments company Avery Dennison RBIS (Retail Branding and Information Solutions) to explore sustainability throughout the design process, from mood board to the runway.
As part of its sustainability goals for 2025, Avery Dennison has committed to working with its partners and customers to make their operations and products more sustainable. This manifested itself in Raeburn’s line in the form of graphic flock designs and studs that were heat-applied to the cotton drill and jersey garments and high-definition woven labels made from recycled yarns.
“As one of the world’s largest branding solutions partners, our role is to have a world-class, insights-driven portfolio that will help drive the garment of the future,” commented Amy White, VP of Global Branding Solutions for Avery Dennison RBIS. “We’re honored to continue our collaboration with Christopher Raeburn, who is not only excelling in the industry, but is also using sustainable materials in a completely new, unexpected, and inspiring way.”
The SARAWAK collection is the fourth seasonal collaboration between Avery Dennison RBIS and Raeburn. Raeburn also collaborated with Clarks for the Spring/Summer 2016 season to create sandals using recycled EVA and cork. The 2016 pieces build on a previous theme of repurposing materials into new garments; previous collections have been developed from military uniforms and life rafts.
Avery Dennison RBIS also worked with up-and-coming designer Holly Fulton for her London Fashion Week showcase. The company has also partnered with UK-based not-for-profit The Sustainable Angle to provide leading apparel brands with innovative, sustainable material and branding solutions; the fruits of that collaboration will be highlighted next week at the 5th Future Fabrics Expo in London.
