Apartment Investment and Management Company (Aimco) has released its first interactive corporate citizenship report, which enable visitors to build their own online report or download a complete version.

Aimco is a real estate investment trust headquartered in Denver, Colorado that owns and operates a geographically diversified portfolio of apartment communities. The report offers information about the company’s 2012 accomplishments in the areas of redevelopment, energy conservation, team building, customer service, financial performance and community outreach.

Aimco’s microsite was designed according to topic areas that mirror the company’s vision statement. Sections include: “to be the best owner and operator;” inspired by a talented team;” “committed to exceptional customer service;” “strong financial performance” and “outstanding corporate citizenship.”

“Our new microsite truly brings our annual corporate citizenship report to life,” said Aimco Chief Administrative Officer Miles Cortez. “The video, audio and graphic elements work together to illustrate the Aimco story and make it accessible to our various stakeholders. We also are proud to feature a number of links to showcase information about our outstanding community partners.”

The company, through its subsidiaries and affiliates, is one of the largest owners and operators of conventional and affordable apartment communities in the United States, with 258 properties serving approximately 250,000 residents each year. Aimco's properties are located in 23 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The interactive report is a good example of how companies are taking CSR reporting to the next level by seeking to engage stakeholders. Last year, Sharon Beattie of Softchoice wrote about the ineffectiveness of the old-fashioned approach of once-a-year, static CSR reporting.

“Today, it’s not enough to communicate what organizations are doing or have done when it comes to CSR,” she wrote. “It’s more important to engage your stakeholders in sharing your CSR story.”
