The international non-profit organization CDP (formerly “Carbon Disclosure Project”) announced its latest results at the CDP Global Water Forum held in Morocco on November 15. CDP works with institutional investors with assets of US$100 trillion.

It will debut September 29 at Paris Motor Show 2016 and be presented at K Fair in Dusseldorf from October 19-26. 6 years ago - The COSMOS standard (COSMetic Organic Standard) is one of the most important international standards for natural cosmetics. Until now, the standards of the national cosmetics associations in Europe also applied – above all BDIH (Germany) and Ecocert (France). When they are replaced by the uniform COSMOS standard starting in January 2017, BASF will be ready for the change: more than a 100 of the ingredients developed by BASF for cosmetic and body care products have already been registered with COSMOS. About half of the products also have a certificate of the international natural and organic cosmetics association NATRUE – including the ultra-light emollient Cetiol® Ultimate and the emulsifier Emulgade® Sucro Plus.

These include concrete admixtures product ranges such as MasterGlenium®, MasterPolyheed®, MasterRheobuild® and MasterPozzolith®. The new plant will allow BASF to better meet the increasing demand for construction chemicals to customers in Sri Lanka. The site is supported by an office, warehouse and a well-equipped testing lab that will deliver tailor-made recipes through formulation excellence.

6 years ago - In recent years, palm oil has arguably become one of the world’s most ubiquitous and contentious raw materials in the consumer goods industry. When conventionally produced palm oil and palm kernel oil are used, there are significant economic, environmental and social impacts along the entire supply chain – from field to shelf. Small farms produce roughly 40 percent of the world’s palm and palm kernel oil; an important question for the oil-producing countries is how to increase the yields from the land already under cultivation.

The “Sport Infinity” concept being pursued by cross-industry teams of companies is spearheaded by German sporting goods manufacturer Adidas and is focused in particular on applications in European football, or soccer, as the sport is known in the US.

6 years ago - BASF is expanding its range of high performance foam products with the innovative, certified compostable particle foam ecovio® EA. The product is predominantly biobased and, like all of the grades under the ecovio® brand, it supports the biological cycle through its certified compostability. The excellent properties of the patented particle foam make it particularly suitable for transport packaging for high-value or delicate goods where a high level of impact resistance and robustness is vital. The product properties are similar to those of EPS and boast outstanding energy absorption and very good resilience even when subjected to multiple impact loads.

While as a group the companies are not yet reducing their emissions at a rate that follows the global scientific consensus on the risks of climate change, the slight improvement over the past five years offers a glimmer of hope.
6 years ago - Yesterday, Field to Market: The Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture announced the launch of a new Science Advisory Council focused on informing the membership-based organization’s “science-based approach to delivering sustainable outcomes at the field and landscape levels.” Comprised of 12 experts, the Council is being asked to develop a sustainability standard for commodity crop production in the United States that “helps catalyze continuous improvement in environmental outcomes.”

6 years ago - BASF Shanghai Coatings Co., Ltd. broke ground today on a new, world-scale automotive coatings plant at the company’s existing site at the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park in Caojing, Shanghai, China. The new plant represents an investment of around €140 million and is expected to start operation in the fourth quarter of 2017. As the latest investment of the joint venture between BASF and Shanghai Huayi Fine Chemical Co., Ltd, the new plant is an expansion of the automotive coatings plant, which began production in 2014 at the same site.
