gaps in our food system.
THE NEXT ECONOMY -
Astrostays launched in 2019 to promote tourism while training local youth in astronomy to show off the Himalayas’ night sky. Now, Cosmohub is a more scalable, sustainable model — a connected community space that highlights local folklore and traditions along with stargazing.
SUPPLY CHAIN -
Nestlé is piloting a weather-insurance program for over 800 smallholder farmers in Indonesia and has contributed
to a guide for coffee farmers to shift to regenerative practices.
THE NEXT ECONOMY -
The 4th annual event provided a comprehensive glimpse into the state and direction of an exciting, maturing industry and provided a valuable platform for businesses within the evolving global food supply network.
CLEANTECH -
The role of waste-management practices in our journey
towards a more sustainable future cannot be overstated. Anaerobic digestion’s multitude of benefits demonstrate its potential to turn ‘waste’ into valuable resources.
MARKETING AND COMMS -
By partnering with Regrow Ag to track and reduce supply chain emissions, Kellogg's and Oatly are driving change and increasing awareness through transparent, data-driven marketing.
MARKETING AND COMMS -
The companies have collaborated on two new worlds aimed at engaging students on issues related to climate change and biodiversity; and to consider careers in areas such as engineering, sustainability and conservation.
SUPPLY CHAIN -
The coffee giant has developed six new varieties of Arabica beans that can better withstand some of the worsening effects of climate change – particularly, diseases such as coffee rust.
FINANCE & INVESTMENT -
‘Underwriting Our Planet’ finds that rather than addressing climate change and biodiversity loss, many economic activities underwritten by insurance companies actually fuel the twin crises.
THE NEXT ECONOMY -
In its first year, the American Climate Corps aims to put more than 20,000 young people on career pathways in the growing fields of clean energy, conservation and climate resilience.
CHEMISTRY, MATERIALS & PACKAGING -
Loliware, Uuvipak and Twiice have created rapidly biodegradable (and even edible) bio-based products that completely upstage their petroleum-based, single-use plastic-polluting counterparts.

Part of the Global Collaboration Village, leaders can now come together in the metaverse to experience and solve the deepening effects of the climate crisis.
THE NEXT ECONOMY -
With the explosive growth of the voluntary carbon market came concerns around carbon-reduction claims lacking clarity or being misleading. Several refined claims frameworks have emerged to bridge these gaps.
NEW METRICS -
The NPI will clarify and standardize the term ‘nature positive;’ and drive synergies across the many actors supporting and implementing changes towards the goal of halting and reversing nature loss by 2030.
WASTE NOT -
By upcycling coconut husks and shrimp shells, Fortuna Cools and Cruz Foam are diverting agricultural waste from landfill and offering circular polystyrene alternatives that match its performance.
THE NEXT ECONOMY -
Phasing out animal agriculture over the next 15 years could reduce GHGs 68% by the year 2100. Yet, ongoing lobbying and subsidies in the US and EU are not giving alternatives the chance to fully compete.
SUPPLY CHAIN -
The publicly available reports, commissioned by the Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action, are part of a roadmap toward industry decarbonization.
WALKING THE TALK -
Adequate water-stewardship goals must address the full range of water issues across the value chain — including amount of water used, impacts on water quality, ecosystem health and communities’ access to safe water.
CLEANTECH -
The benefits of anaerobic digestion for recycling various kinds of organic farm waste are far-reaching — including waste management, renewable energy generation, GHG reduction, economic advantages and agricultural sustainability.
