Seventh Generation, which makes eco-friendly household and personal care products, on Monday launched a new line of laundry and dishwasher detergents designed to save consumers energy and money, while also helping to protect and care for the environment.

Each product in the so-called “Energy Smart” line is formulated with advanced enzyme technology to give the same performance in cold and hot or warm water. This allows consumers to clean dirty dishes and clothes effectively, the company says, all while using low energy settings on their washing machines and dishwashers.

The new line of products is exclusive to Target's “Made to Matter” collection, which brings together natural, organic and sustainable brands to introduce new products with simple ingredients and affordable prices. It is a curated collection of more than 120 new and exclusive products from 16 food and personal care brands already known for their commitment to making products in a more sustainable way.

Consumers can save an average of $17 per year by using Energy Smart Liquid Laundry Detergent on cold water settings, Seventh Generation claims. The new detergent fights stains without using dyes, synthetic fragrances or artificial brighteners. By using Seventh Generation's Auto Dish Gel or Auto Dish Packs, also made without dyes, synthetic fragrances or chlorine bleach, consumers can save an average of $20 per year when using low energy settings.

Earlier this year, Seventh Generation joined 3,000 business partners to call on Congress to strengthen the country's outdated chemical policy. The group, Companies for Safer Chemicals, made a business argument for strong reforms that support the industry innovating safer and cleaner products.
