250+ Craft Brewers Join Brewgooder’s #DrinkBeerGiveWater Movement for World Water Day

This World Water Day (March 22), over 250 craft brewers from around the world will launch unique brews, proceeds benefitting The Brewgooder Foundation and its sustainable development projects across Malawi.

Glasgow-based charitable craft brewery Brewgooder has enlisted the help of over 250 fellow brewers from around the world for a collaborative campaign to help fund sustainable development projects in Malawi.

For the Brewgooder Global Gathering 2020 — taking place over World Water Day weekend (20-22 March) — the hundreds of participating brewers have pledged to launch their own unique beers; with the goal of raising £500 (~US$850) or more each for Brewgooder Foundation rehabilitation and construction projects across Malawi, to help Brewgooder achieve its goal of empowering the lives of 100,000 Malawians in 2020-21.

“The Global Gathering shows what the craft beer community is capable of when we collaborate and use our shared passion to make a positive impact — it’s the beginning of a worldwide movement,” Brewgooder founder Alan Mahon said in a statement. “There are far too many people in developing countries who have their ambitions, dreams and potential limited by lack of access to a safe source of water. By providing clean, accessible water, we can help kids grow up healthier, stay in school longer and build better lives.”

McMahon, 29, was inspired to action after picking up a water-borne parasite while traveling and volunteering in Nepal in his early 20s — the resulting venture, Brewgooder, and its #DrinkBeerGiveWater movement launched in early 2016 with a mission to provide clean water for a million people in need around the world, by donating 100 percent of its profits to clean-water charities. The startup raised over £700K for clean-water charities in its first two years of operation.

Communicating complex, unfamiliar sustainability claims on CPG packaging

Join us as Applegate and HowGood share insights into marketing lessons, consumer response and understanding, and marketplace data on the expression and communication of new categories of sustainability claims on CPG packaging - as well as tips for avoiding consumer and industry backlash and controversy - Wed, Oct. 16, at SB'24 San Diego.

Brewgooder’s signature Clean Water Lager is the result of a collaboration with fellow Scotsmen and purpose-led brewers, BrewDog. The two partnered in 2017 to serve Clean Water Lager in 30 BrewDog bars across the UK — over the course of a few months, enough pints were sold to fund six well-building projects for two communities in Malawi’s Thyolo District.

With water rather a key ingredient in beer, global brewers including AB InBev, Heineken, Molson Coors and more are working to ensure their sustainable use of it; with some — such as SABMiller and Stella Artois — using their reach to raise awareness of and help mitigate the global water crisis.
