Taking place directly after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday encourages small acts of kindness once the frenzy of post-Thanksgiving shopping sales is over. Since its inaugural year in 2012, Giving Tuesday has brought people together to celebrate and support philanthropy.
Over the past year, HEINEKEN USA has worked with a range of partners to make cities greener, promote better decision-making, and foster more inclusive communities.
As we get ready for Giving Tuesday 2017, we wanted to give a shout-out to some of our NGO partners who are helping us to Brew a Better World! While there are so many great initiatives taking place, we have included some of our favorite activities below.

Leading-edge forest-management standards — thanks to science-based targets
Join us as CDP and WWF discuss AFI’s new deforestation framework and the path toward SBTs on forest management — at New Metrics '19, November 18-20.
Creating mentoring opportunities for emerging women leaders with Vital Voices
- We’ve partnered with Vital Voices on their Global Freedom Exchange (GFE) Program, a two-week dynamic educational and mentoring opportunity for emerging women leaders from 18 countries around the world.
Greening the future with the Recycling Partnership and Savannah College of Art and Design
- We continue to work with the Recycling Partnership, a national nonprofit committed to improving curbside residential recycling, on fun ways to green the future. We also partnered with the Savannah College of Art and Design to sponsor a full-semester course focused on glass recycling.
Promoting responsible decision-making with Evite and Uber
- We are working with Evite to nudge consumers aged 21+ to decide whether they will be drinking or driving at holiday events and celebrations. Once users make a choice via a widget, they’re rewarded with an Uber discount code to help enjoy the holiday season more safely and responsibly.
Partnering with +POOL to create the world’s first water-filtering, floating swimming pool
- We developed a unique partnership model with +POOL to create the world’s first water-filtering, floating swimming pool for everyone to enjoy, located in New York City’s East River. If you’d like to swim in +POOL when the project is complete, go to SwimIntheRiver.com to sign a free pledge. If 100,000 pledges are signed, Heineken will contribute $100,000 to the project’s development.
These are just a handful of examples of how HEINEKEN USA’s partners are giving back.
And it’s not just us. Our brands are working with amazing partners around the world. For example, Tiger has embarked on a global partnership with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) starting with a $1 million donation to support tiger conservation efforts. In the US, Heineken is partnering with the National Trust for Historic Preservation and IndieGoGo to help revive metropolitan areas, using IndieGoGo as a crowdfunding platform to raise awareness and funds for restoration.
