KNOXVILLE, Tenn., May 30, 2013 – Shelton Group, the nation’s leading marketing communications firm entirely focused in the sustainability and energy efficiency sectors, announced today that Suzanne Shelton will be presenting at Sustainable Brands for the third year in a row. At this year’s conference, held June 3-6 in San Diego, she’ll lead a session called Storytelling for Organizational Engagement: Selling Sustainability Internally. Shelton will present alongside Jeff Rehm, Corporate Sustainability Manager with Grainger, the world’s largest maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) company and Rob Zimmerman, Manager--Engineering, Water Conservation, and Sustainability at Kohler, the global leader in kitchen and bath products. The session will be held Thursday, June 6 at 2 PM. “We’ll discuss why it's important to package and tell a corporate sustainability story, rather than simply reporting facts and figures. In our experience the best stories -- the ones that see the light of day -- fit neatly at the intersection of what the brand stands for, what the market cares about and what the company culture will embrace,” said Suzanne Shelton founder and CEO of Shelton Group. “And in our experience, the culture piece is the hardest. We’ll be real, transparent and offer some excellent lessons learned. I think the audience will walk away with some steps on how to create their own sustainability story, but more importantly, they’ll get an understanding of how to get it socialized and embraced internally.” During the session, Rehm will talk about Grainger’s sustainability platform, of “Doing Business the Right Way,” which is directly aligned with the company’s brand, corporate culture and target market. Rehm has spent the last two years socializing the sustainability story internally and, as a result, has successfully embedded it within Grainger's broader CSR platform. Zimmerman will join the conversation to discuss how Kohler worked with an internal team to set its environmental goals. He’ll also discuss the journey of introducing sustainability into the Kohler culture and the challenge of getting buy in at all levels of the organization.
