Unilever Unveils New Plastic Sachet Recycling Technology

PRESS RELEASE - Consumer goods giant Unilever has unveiled new technology that enables plastic sachets to be recycled. The technology has been developed in partnership with the Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV in Germany. The process, known as CreaSolv, was inspired by a method used to recycle old television sets, whereby brominated flame-retardants were separated from WEEE polymers. Through this method, plastic is recovered from the sachet and reused in the manufacture of new sachets. Unilever says that it will make the technology open source so that other members of the industry can help to scale up its use.

Kimberly-Clark Plans $75 Million Efficiency Upgrade at Mobile Mill

PRESS RELEASE - Paper products giant Kimberly-Clark has announced plans to build a $75 million combined heat-power plant at its Mobile mill, which they say will increase the plant's efficiency while decreasing long-term costs and emissions. The plant will generate electricity with a natural gas turbine and the exhaust gas will be rerouted to make steam for the plant's operations. It's a technique, sometimes called cogeneration, that's been used by many paper mills throughout the country in recent years to run more efficiently. Todd Visscher, manager for Kimberly-Clark's Mobile mill, said the improvements will strengthen the Mobile Mill's position with Kimberly-Clark as a strategic manufacturing location.

PepsiCo Advances 2025 Sustainability Agenda through Agreement with Partnership for a Healthier America

PRESS RELEASE - PepsiCo, Inc. (NYSE: PEP) today announced that it has signed an agreement with Partnership for a Healthier America ("PHA") to independently report and verify the company's progress against previously outlined goals designed to transform its product portfolio and offer healthier options. PepsiCo's goals, which were announced last October and informed by World Health Organization and other authorities' guidelines, include a focus on reducing added sugars, saturated fat and sodium levels. 3M Taiwan Acts As a Role Model to Raise Environmental Awareness

PRESS RELEASE - 3M Taiwan, one of the over 70 subsidiaries of the multinational corporation 3M Company, outperforms its Asian peers in energy saving, waste reduction, and water conservation, according to 3M's annual internal report on each subsidiary's environmental protection achievements. In 2016, 3M Taiwan cut its electricity usage by 45 million kWh, reducing 32 thousand tons of CO2 emissions, which amounts to 82 times the amount of CO2 that Daan Park can absorb in a year. 3M Taiwan also decreased the amount of energy used per unit of production by 26 percent, which stands out in contrast to the Asian average of a mere 8.42 percent.

BASF named Sustainability Supplier of the Year by FCA US

SAP Vows To Go 'Carbon Neutral' By 2025

PRESS RELEASE - Business software giant SAP has this week provided an update on its wide-ranging sustainability plans, revealing a new goal to make its operations 'carbon neutral' by 2025. The company said it is currently "well on track" to meet its target to return its carbon emissions to 2000 levels by 2020 and is now ready to set a more ambitious longer term target. "We are well on track to achieve our current carbon target," said chief sustainability officer Daniel Schmid in a statement. "But we have the ambition to remain a frontrunner and look beyond 2020. By 2025, we will become carbon neutral in SAP's operations. This is the logical next step in SAP's long-term greenhouse gas (GHG) avoidance strategy."
