PRé has long been the metrics solutions partner for first-movers in a variety of industries aiming to create business value from sustainable products. Perhaps best known for its industry-standard SimaPro LCA software, PRé profoundly believes in the possibility and viability of a sustainable future and the crucial role metrics can play in that transformation.

So in the interest of furthering business’ positive impacts from the ground up, PRé has announced that, through the end of the year, it will provide complimentary sustainability metrics assessments to promising mission-driven startups, in order to accelerate their expansion.

Beginning with the winner of the Sustainable Brands Innovation Open, which will be announced tomorrow at Sustainable Brands ’14 in San Diego, PRé will select a new startup recipient every two months.

PRé conducted a comprehensive life cycle analysis of Ecofiltro’s water-purification filter and compared the environmental impacts of its manufacturing, distribution and use against that of two other purification methods — bottled water and boiled water. Overall, it found that while Ecofiltro’s filter had the lowest impacts of the three, and identified several opportunities for the company to further reduce its footprint and enhance its product’s sustainability advantage.

“Thanks to PRé, who we met at the Sustainable Brands Conference in 2013, we now have proof that our Relan products stand up to the competition and are more environmentally friendly,” Relan said in a recent email. “PRé completed an environmental impact assessment to help Relan find ways to further reduce impacts of our products and improve customer communication.”

Not only did the assessment show where the impacts of Relan bags fall when compared to polypropylene and cotton bags, it helped the company understand how to better communicate the benefits of its products.

To apply for a Sustainability Metrics Assessment for your startup, fill in the form and submit your case.

The next deadline to apply is Friday, August 8th.
