This session will host a candid discussion about internal company practices that have stood the test of time in terms of helping turn employees and top management into sustainability advocates and champions. In addition to covering tactics proven effective in neutral or favorable organizational environments, speakers will also analyze action that can be taken to counter the most common and persistent forces working against sustainability leadership - forces such as inertia, indifference and misguided hostility.
Learning outcomes:
- How to intentionally ‘cultivate’ sustainability advocates and champions within top management and any other layer of a given organization, whether starting from scratch or building on top of an existing foundation
- How to navigate the ups and downs of inevitable cultural fads, changing leadership styles, and budget constraints
- How to approach and overcome unhelpful inertia, indifference and resistance to ambitious sustainability values and/or action
