‘Science Guy’ Bill Nye is coming back to television this Spring – this time to put climate deniers in their place.
In each episode of his new Netflix show, “Bill Nye Saves the World,” the scientist, engineer, comedian, author and inventor will tackle hot-button topics such as climate change, vaccinations and genetically modified foods in a scientific yet entertaining way, dispelling myths and refuting anti-scientific claims that may have been espoused by politicians, religious leaders or titans of industry. In his signature, unfiltered style, he will bring in special guests, conduct experiments and demonstrations, and ultimately let the facts lead the argument.
As seen in the trailer below, Nye will set the record straight with the help of intrepid correspondents including engineer and science-literacy advocate Emily Calandrelli, Venezuelan comedian/writer Joanna Hausmann, Australian comedian/actor Nazeem Hussain, supermodel Karlie Kloss; and science communicator, filmmaker and TV presenter Derek Muller.
“Since the start of the 'Science Guy' show, I’ve been on a mission to change the world by getting people everywhere excited about the fundamental ideas in science,” Nye said in a statement. “Today, I’m excited to be working with Netflix on a new show, where we’ll discuss the complex scientific issues facing us today. With the right science and good writing, we’ll do our best to enlighten and entertain our audience. And, perhaps we’ll change the world a little.”
Nye, who has spoken frequently about the effects of climate change and humans’ role in it, has been an outspoken critic of climate change deniers – last year, he publicly debated staunch deniers Marc Morano, director of the denier film Climate Hustle, and meteorologist Joe Bastardi, and bet them a total of $60,000 that 2016 would be one of the 10 hottest years on record (a bet they both declined).
