5 years ago - As we navigate tumultuous times in our country and across the globe, people are looking to businesses to cultivate community, either through their own programs or through partnerships. According to the 2017 Edelman Trust Barometer, businesses and NGOs are the most trusted organizations by the public, more so than media or the government. People are looking to these organizations to fill a need, solve problems, and redefine the ‘good life’ in their communities.
5 years ago - SAN FRANCISCO, May 08, 2017 – Sustainable Brands® recently announced a media partnership with Detroit Public Television (DPTV), a viewer-supported PBS member station that serves the nation’s 11th largest television market. DPTV will work with Sustainable Brands to produce the livestream at the upcoming Sustainable Brands ‘17 Detroit conference, May 22-25 at the Cobo Center in Detroit, Michigan.
5 years ago - Last year at Sustainable Brands ‘16 San Diego, my Hemmings House colleague, Jon Robertson, and I hosted a workshop about the power of impact film storytelling, and how we as brands can accelerate positive social/environmental change by sharing stories that matter to our stakeholders.
5 years ago - Publishing the premier digital magazine for issues related to sustainability, Innovation & Tech Today works in proud partnership with Sustainable Brands® to investigate advances in sustainability-led innovation for businesses. "Sustainability" has become a complex term, and our team works with Sustainable Brands to investigate areas such as: product and design innovation, social and environmental entrepreneurship, consumer behavior change, Big Data analytics and advances in IT, transparency in the supply chain, green chemistry and materials, and much more.
5 years ago - I recently had the honor of speaking on the TEDx stage. In my talk, I asked: “Can we build an economy that isn’t built on greed? Is it possible to build an economy that is additive, not depletive?” I believe we can, and I believe the Sustainable Brands community has a leading role in re-constructing our current economy and building one with a much stronger, more durable and more evenly distributed foundation. This blog summarizes the message I gave in my TEDx talk.

6 years ago - Two years ago a story was penned here on Sustainable Brands about a partnership between my company, PrintEco - a small startup with an app to enable more efficient printing - and Domtar, one of the largest paper & pulp manufacturers in North America. It was certainly a unique combination: a paper company promoting a paper-saving software.

7 years ago - This year, Sustainable Brands San Diego is all about the ‘How.’ Companies want to know how to act on sustainability imperatives in the most effective way, but navigating the jungle of buzzwords and complex strategic frameworks is no walk in the park, or so it seems. What I have found through extensive research is that when it comes to creating shared value, building the circular economy and measuring impact, the in-between is everything, and great business model design is remarkably easy once you have a few key principles down and understand how to fill in the gaps in evolving stakeholder relationships, i.e. your in-between. Allow me to take a step back and explain.

Through this year’s theme, ‘How Now,’ the over 500 attendees witnessed over 90 speakers explore and illustrate How brands are tapping into emerging innovation to successfully scale sustainability to the next level Now. Over 500 attendees came together to discuss how now strategies in the face of changing times and changing consumer behaviors, learn from over 90 speakers and participate in 30 breakouts and 3 workshops throughout two days of the event.
